Samsung 182D won't recognise blank DVD media

I have spent a considerable amount of time reading the related posts, and have not been able to see my particular problem.

My new 182D reads and writes all CD’s great.
It reads commercial DVD’s and DVD-r’s burned on other systems.

Whenever I insert a -R or +R, the Windows Explorer changes the display from

DVD-RAM Drive D:

to

CD Drive D:

Burn4Free recognizes the hardware as
TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-S182DSB04

which reflects the present firmware installation (I have tried several)

but will not allow me to burn more than 700MB, since it thinks it is a CDR.
This is with 3 brands of DVD- and + R media.

I have attempted to avoid any RTFM questions, but I am ready to admit my ignorance and ask for help.

Thanks in advance -

That is only cosmetical and is because windooze has no dvd burn support.

Use a proper burning app to burn to DVD.

After I posted, I saw someone reference SB05. I installed that, and Burn4Free liked that - it let me burn a 2.7GB file and it works now.

Thanks Chef -
