I hadn’t heard that Newman was ill. He passed away yesterday from cancer.

He was one of my favorite actors from his generation…from The Hustler, Hud, Cool Hand Luke, Hombre, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid through The Sting, he made a series of great movies during the 60’s and early 70’s.

Sorry to see him go. :frowning:

I met Paul Newman twice. Once at a motorcycle dealership in Bridgeport Ct. and another time at the motorcycle races in Laconia, New Hampshire. He was the most unpretentious and down to earth person you could ever imagine. His death marks the end of an era, a great milestone in our lives.

Yeah a very sad day.
Not only one of the best actors of his time.
But a great character to boot.
With humility & compassion.

Salad dressings were a bit expensive, but I am sorry to see him go.

One of the few really famous actors who was also a really nice person.
His movies were a bit before my time but the Hustler was rerun not long ago. Great performances IMO.
Very sad that he is gone.

R.I.P. Paul . Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of my favourite movies.
By the way, his mother was born in small village only about 20 km far from my hometown.

What a loss…a truly great actor and human being.
He will be sorely missed.

@Zathros
Unpretentitious certainly is a word to describe Paul Newman.
I lived in Connecticut for 37 years and had the pleasure to meet Paul Newman once.
It had to be around 1968-69 at Limerock Racetrack…way up in the northwest corner of the state.
As unassuming a man as any you’d meet. Wasn’t interested in hollywood or talking about himself…just wanted to have a few “pops” and shoot the breeze with folks who enjoyed racing as much as he did.

He was a class act.

GUY’S
PAUL NEWMAN,was a great actor who had his share
of tradgedy in his life. He lost his son to an overdose.
He however gave a lot to charity. His films were to many
to name however two of my favorites are THE VERDICT/
and,TWILIGHT. The exchange between him GENE HACKMAN,
and JAMES GARNER,are a pleasure to watch. GOD REST
