SPTI means SCSI Pass-Through Interface, and is present only in Windows NT, 2000 and XP. AFAIK, it works fine: I could say, browsing through this forum, that some users experienced problems with ASPI (not me), but I did not heard of people having problems with SPTI... it is quite usual to remove completely the ASPI layer under Windows 2000 or XP.
Some programs (like Nero) prefer to use ASPI since the want compatibility also with older OSes like Windows 98. DVDInfoPro can use both, and so DVDDecrypter, and probably many other that I don't remember now or I am not aware of...
I am really not a techie, so if I said something strongly wrong and incorrect, the CDFreaks experts will correct me (and I will learn something new), but I think that I am not too far from the truth.
Hope this helps, regards
