My friend loaned me a CD-R disc that he swears he put dozens of precious JPGs on, presumably using Roxio. I think he was using Drag to Disc. He is not technical and could not answer my many questions. He doesn’t have the JPGs anywhere else, so this is critical. When I used Nero infotool to read the CD properties, it says the following:
Type:Data CD(Mode 2)
Capacity 76:05.72(668 MB)
Blank Capacity 79:59.71
Manufacture ID:CMC Magnetics
Disc Status:Open, not finalized
File systems:ISO9660, UDF
Date 6 july 2008
Application:Roxio Drag-to-Disc 6.1.42
When we go into Windows Explorer, it only sees no folders, three files, and none that have nothing to do with the JPGs we think are on it and looks like this:
Volume in drive F is UDFREADER
Volume Serial Number is 85FC-8D34
Directory of F:\

07/16/2001 03:29 AM 43 Autorun.inf

3 File(s) 428,951 bytes
0 Dir(s) 0 bytes free
There is a utility called ISOBUSTER Pro version 2.5. I got the trial version wand let it examine the CD. It is the only tool so far that appears to “see†folders and files on this CD. It sees around 20 folders and hundreds of JPGs in those folders. But, I can’t recover them because it is a trial version. And I don’t know if even the full version will recover them, and I’d hate to tell my friend to pay $30 for this and then have it not work.
If you see attached file, you can see what ISOBUSTER sees on the CD.
So, all I can say is….HELP!
I am not a CD expert, yet I know a ton about disk drives and DVDs. With CDs I am a little mystified, especially in the world of packet-writing software and problems with unreadable media and “hidden†files.
I don’t want to write anything to this CD and make it worse.
Can anyone please offer some tips on how to solve this? A good starting point or a utility? I won’t be surprised if this is something simple, such as “go finalize the CD†and that works.
Thanks for all your help in advance,
