Ritek R01? Old? New? Good? Bad?

Alright I bought a 100 pack of 4X Ritek dvd+R’s from newegg (the $47 - $10 rebate deal) and they came today. DVD Identifier came up with this from the first disc.

I took a few others out at random and they all seem to be the same, at least I didnt get a mixed batch.

Does anyone know about these? R01 would be old right? as they have R03 and R04 these days? What sort of quality can I expect?

I’d like to burn a disc with dvdspeed or whatever that nero tool is for a test, what options should I use?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ricohjpnr01 doesn’t have to replaced with r03 or r04. I have only r01 and r02 myself. Though I’d like newer media with Ricoh codes that are written at 16x with all 16x writers, ricohjpnr01 is one of the media available to the mass at reasonable prices.

$30 for 100 ricohjpnr01 seems great. Cheap and good.

Ahh, thank you. I burned a DVD image (Ong Bak rules) at 6X on my stock NEC 2500A last night, today I’m going to TRY to sift through the massive amounts of data on this drive and figure out what I want to do with it in terms of firmware, bitsetting etc etc.

Its a mess I say.

Ricoh R01 is NOT the same as Ritek R01.

Ricoh R00, Ritek R01 == 2.4x
Ricoh R01, Ritek R02 == 4x
Ricoh R02, Ritek R03 == 8x
Ricoh R03, Ritek R04 == 16x

Ricoh’s naming starts at 0, Ritek’s start at 1, hence the discrepancy.

I’d take Ricoh R01 over any of the Ritek media types (even their R03) any day. Ricoh media is manufactured by Ritek, but using Ricoh’s dye and technology and is subject to much better quality control.

Ritek started to get attention among the DVD+R and DVD+RW media users by selling Ricoh-code Ritek-media media. HP and many others also started using the same Ritek media to sell under their names.

It was only later that Ritek caused confusion for everyone including the resellers by mixing them with “Ritek R01” and “Ritek R02” media.

All Ritek media I get via Lite-On IT are ricohjpnr01 or ricohjpnr02 because Lite-On is one of Ritek’s important customers. It changed like this:

ricohjpnr01 -> ricohjpnr02 -> yuden000t01 -> yuden000t02 OEM -> yuden000t02 That’s

Here are the media codes from DVD Identifier v3.4#4 read by Toshiba-Samsung TS-H552B T00 firmware.

Though DVD Identifier says 1x and 2.4x for all three, they support 8x, 8x, 12x, 4x, and 12x writing with TS-H552B TS00 respectively. The “Top” means the label side of each disc. The five types mentioned above are all what I got to be bundled with Lite-On DVD writers.

Just for comparison, here is still another T02 under Fusion 4x DVD+R brand name and the next is for TYG01 under Fusion 4x DVD-R brand name.

Fusion 4x DVD+R can be written at 12x but Fusion 4x DVD-R can be written at 4x with TS-H552B TS00.

I received the above 37$ 100pack a few days ago.

I know there were excellent ricohjpnr01 (I mean… TY class :slight_smile: ) but my initial test (burned with 2500A v2b5) suggests that Ritek (understandably) don’t ship their best media for this package.

But certainly the quality was over the acceptable level in an absolute standard. My 166s read it back at 12x CAV without major struggle. (Though Kprobe after speedlock wasn’t so impressive.)

Considering it is 37c per disc, it is a very good deal.

@ Kenshin, nice post but what does Taiyo Yuden have to do with any of this?

BTW if anyone is interested they have dropped the price at newegg by $4.01 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=17-132-344&depa=0

Of course your not in america Kenshin… too bad =/

Hey thanks! So this media is probably a notch or so below Taiyo Yuden?

MUST. RESIST. URGE TO BUY MORE. http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=17-132-344&depa=0

They are sold as Ritdata (commonly confused with Ritek). Ridata mainly sells Ritek and Ricoh though. I think they have a philosophy that the name must start with Ri. :stuck_out_tongue:

They also have RiDisc brand. :slight_smile:

RiDATA is RITEK’s own brand name! :slight_smile:

And yes, there definetly is a difference between Ricoh and RITEK dye. Ricoh dye is a medium purplish-blue colour, whereas RITEK’s own dye is a dark reddish-purple colour, almost maroon.

Hm. I think I made it obvious why I listed TY codes after Ritek’s Ricoh codes. :wink:

Where’s RiDisc?

There have been many kinds of Ritek media.

  1. Ritek-made OEM media with various “grades” whatever that means

  2. Ritek-made Ritek media

  3. Ritek-made RiDATA media

  4. Ritek-made Ricoh-code media

Maybe more, maybe not.

I never saw it myself. I assume it’s sold only in Europe.
But you can easily find a few pictures of them.
People say they are (of course!!) G04 and G05.

Damit, just noticed, they are VERY similar. Are they produced in the same place/manner or something?
