The 4x burn produced lower jitter.

LG GSA-H62L (DL00), 4482 MB
Burned @ 12x with CD-DVD Speed
MID: RITEK F16

Sold as “Computer Essentials 16x Multi-Purpose DVD+R” in 25-pc. spindle

If you are in the U.S., and you visit a Walgreen’s drug store, you may find another source of private-label CD and DVD discs which are manufactured by RiTEK. The COO (Country Of Origin) is not indicated at all on the package – but the discs are assumed to be MIT based on the inner codes near the spindle hole. These discs, like the Office Depot private-label brand (not to be confused with Office Depot’s Ativa brand, which uses CMC-made media), alternates its DVD+R stock between RITEK F16 codes and RICOHJPN R03 codes.

At any rate, the 12x burn on these RITEK F16-coded discs look good, even when scanned @ 16x.

LG GSA-H62L (DL00), 4482 MB
Burned @ 16x with CD-DVD Speed
MID: RITEK F16

Sold as “Computer Essentials 16x Multi-Purpose DVD+R” in 25-pc. spindle

In contrast to the 12x burn, the 16x burn was substantially worse; in fact, it is bad enough to cause skipping problems in some DVD players, particularly during the last half of the movie. Stick with 12x when burning RITEK F16 discs (the stamper code typically says “VR5F16-#####”) in a burner with a Renesas chipset.

Samsung (TSSTcorp) SH-S203N (SB01), 4168 MB
Burned @ 8x with ImgBurn
MID: RITEK F16 (Stamper code: VR5F16-00140)

Sold as “Maxell 16x Color DVD+R” in jewel cases

Note: The Maxell-branded color DVD+R discs are made by RiTEK – but the MIDs used in such media vary by batch. This batch used RITEK F16 MIDs (but other times, Maxell gets RICOHJPN R03 MIDs, and lately, RITEK R05 MIDs). The test results apply only to this particular 10-pack of Maxell-branded RITEK F16 DVD+R discs.

#172

Samsung (TSSTcorp) SH-S203N (SB01), 4482 MB
Burned @ 8x with CD-DVD Speed
MID: RITEK R05 (Stamper code: VR5RK1-00290)

Sold as “TDK 16x DVD+R” in 50 pcs. spindle

Note: RiTEK’s quality control has been all over the place of late. But I can tell you that the R05 dye is distinctly inferior to the same company’s F16 dye (differences in dye formula notwithstanding)… :a

Lite-On LH-16W1P SL08 , 4482 MB

This is the first time I’ve ever posted a scan/test so bear with me if I pooch it, and honestly I have no idea how to read the results but I think, in comparison to some others I’ve seen, it’s ok. You folks tell me, ok? If I’m doing something that’s incorrect, or the settings as shown in the images are “wrong,” someone point that out also. Thanks.

No-name DH-16W1P drive (OEM rebadged Lite-On LH-16W1P)

I found the info needed to flash the drive from the original LG12 firmware (whoever made that should be shot I think) to the latest SL02 that I could find through this forum, and then flashed the actual Lite-On SL08 that’s currently available. Also, I burned the “Create Disc” portion at 12x.

The media came from a 50 pack spindle of TDK DVD+R purchased at Radio Shack a few days ago - they’re on sale for $10.99 so I think I might grab a few more before the price spikes back up.

So, would one of you infinitely more knowledgeable folks take a look at this info and tell me if this is good or bad, in a PM if necessary as I don’t think regular discussion is allowed here (sorry for all this info, just wanted to be horough for the first time).

Here’s the results:

Sold as “Maxell 16x Color DVD+R” in jewel cases
This particular 10-pack, as it turned out, has two different batches of RITEK F16 discs mixed in the same package. Hence, the “MDM” code at the end of the part number.
