This might sound ridiculous, but I wonder if the laser beam from the DVDRW can possibly have a healing effect on an unstable dye layer. What I propose to do is leave this media for another three months and then re-test on the DW1640 and check if the PIE. If the PIE is significantly higher than 40,000 then I can say with a great degree of certainty that F16 is at least unpredictable, if not unreliable.

I have also sometimes different results if I scan media more than one time in a row. But mostly the differences are small.

I have F16 from different brands and my experience is the media is much better than many other +R-media you can buy, at least if it´s burned recently.

If we ignore that odd PIF spike in the middle of the graph, then the results are better than average. 12x is the sweet spot for this media with this drive. I tried all other speeds, and this is the best result. Now I have no use for my Pioneer drives anymore. This was the only media it outperformed all other drives on until now.

Auxiliary tests:

Added a PX-760A to my arsenal recently and I thought I’d give this media a shot. Somewhat comparable results to the H62N (though slightly higher PIE with the PX-760A), but without the weird PIF spike in the middle.

The H62N is not suitable for the simple reason that media learning can’t be cleared on it and once it sets the speed for the media you’re using, there’s no way to burn at your selected speed and there’s no way to clear media learning to my knowledge, because it’s not officially acknowledged that LG drives have learning. My H42N (PATA version of H62N) has a weak laser which produces coasters so I could not test with that.

So the Plextor is the best drive for this media so far, given all of this. Anyone care to comment please on the Beta and TA scans? Are they decent?

Tempting to say the 6x burn is better - but this is not necessarily so. The beta is better at 8x. Probably a good idea to scan the beta on the good H62N burn disc if it’s still around here somewhere.

In what is a first for me, the DW1620 gives much different results than the 1640. I think the 1640’s results are accurate because it correlates to the iHAS124 B results. Nevertheless, this is another point off for Ritek F16.

I tested other discs to make sure my DW1620 wasn’t malfunctioning. The drive is working perfectly fine. I also tested the Plextor-burned disc with the same result. This drive does not like these discs.
