Ritek dvd-r dl incompatible format

hi this might be a very newb question,

my dvd writer is a mad dog md-16x3dvd9-8x, i’m tryin to burn a dvd backup to dvd-r dl ridata. i have backedup the dvd using dvd decryptor. i try to burn the iso using dvd decryptor, imgburn, and nero. they all give an incompatible format right before attempting to burn. in nero it does identify the disk as a dvd-r dl. i heard that dvd-r dl does suck, is that the problem. shouldn’t it at least attempt to burn? oh yah and i do have most up to date firmware

info in dvdd before burn

This probably isn’t the problem, but I’d use Verbatim if I were to burn DL discs.

Just skip this crap media.
Not only Ri* DL media is cheap and crappy, all their other media is it too. :Z

I wouldn’t recommend any Ri* DVD media with a clear conscience. But their CDRs are good.

Slightly OT, sorry.

i heard it is crappy media but is this error a result of crappy media? i kno verbatim is currently the best. also i’v burned about around 200 dvds using riteks and princos and never had a problem. but that’s dvd-r which is different. but i’m jus wondering because i don’t want to buy another pack of dvdr dl and recieve the same error

-R is where Riteks these days are especially poor. Test them often

Failed to Reserve Track! - Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format
This media type is not supported by your burner, spinekills.
If you like to burn DL’s go for Verbatim MKM-001 (+DL).

@Arachne, can you please for once stay on topic. What has RiTEK single layer -R’s to do with -DL’s from same company. Have you tested them (RITEKP01)…? :stuck_out_tongue:

really but my burner is listed to burn dvd-/+r dl? jus incorrent information?

oh and i do plan on getting dvd+r dl next, jus don’t want to let these go to waste.

Basically thats correct spinekills.
But to get propper write strategy, also your firmware has to support that exact media.
Edit. Future firmware updates might implement support for media in question.

Get in contact with MADDOG and ask for supported media list.

I must say I’m surprised, given that I believe Ritek P01 is 4x -DL, and the burner supports 6x -DL burning.

Firmware upgrade?

Edit: I do apologise, seems I wasn’t quick enough.

off topic.

RITEKP01 is supported in NEC ND-4571 firmware.
But IIRC MadDog drive MD-16X3DVD9-8X is a ND-4551 rebadged. Not 100% sure though.

ok cool. thanx all for the info

The only -DL MID’s I could find in MD-16X3DVD9-8X 1.F1 firmware are; MCC 02RG20 and MKM 01RD30. Both 6x speed rated.
