Hi all, I'm hoping to get some help with an unusual problem I've been experiencing for some time now. After a fresh Windows install about two months ago, I was using CDex to rip backup copies of some retail CDs in good condition (using a Plextor Plexwriter Premium CD burner). Then, all of a sudden, one disc started taking a much longer time to rip than normal, and at the same time my PC was slowed to a crawl... my mouse became very jumpy and even audio playback through foobar2000 would pause due to the very high resource usage. This occured no matter what other programs (if any) I have running in the background.
After exhausting every other option I could think of, I decided to try the same disc in my other optical drive, a Plextor PX-716AL, and there was no problem. Ripping was back to full speed, and resource usage was back at a normal level, so no more jumpy mouse or skipping playback. Fast forward two months to a few minutes ago, and now this drive began having the same problems again, literally one disc worked fine, and the next started acting up immediately.
I have searched google and the CDex forums for an answer unsuccessfully, so hopefully one of you can diagnose the problem. Here are my basic specs:
Intel e8400 (stock speeds)
4 GB G. Skill DDR2 1000
Win XP Pro x64
EVGA 8800GTS 512
