Ripping and Encoding Music

Hi,

I was reading a guide on how to create mp3s from a CD and it mentions rippers and encoders.

I use WMP 7.1 to rip tracks from a CD but they seem to be .wma files and not .wav files. Is WMP not a ripper?

I then tried to convert the .wma files to mp3s using Cool Edit Pro but it says they’re protected.

So what’s the best ripper and encoder?
I’ve read it’s EAC and LAME respectively.

I use CDex 1.51 with LAME. It is free and simple.

Or Exact Audio Copy with LAME encoder (can be found through search of mainpage articles).

Always works for me, haven’t seen better quality mp3 encoding yet.

Believe it can rip, but I would not use it for that purpose.
The less I need to use WMP the better I feel…there are a lot of alternatives for WMP that are less buggy and/or take up less resources.

Also take your time & read it > EAC+Lame Stereo options
