After going from fw 1.04 to the current 1.05, I noticed that my RICOHJPN R02
disks can no longer be written at 12x : plextools v2.16 reports MAX = 8x !!!
I’m absolutely possitive that I have already written these blancs at 12x using DVDDecrypter !!

Also DVDInfoPro 3 reports 12x :

What the heck is going on with Plextor ? Buggy firmware perhaps ?

BTW, I’m also one off the Plextor ‘victims’ who got a “bad” PX-712A.
To demonstrate, here is a SUM8 from a RICOHJPN R02 written at 8x.
Note that THIS IS RECOMMENDED MEDIA !! :a :a
About the same results when I use Plextors own TY 8x media (YUDEN000 T02).

1ste image : RICOHJPN R02 only 8x by Plextools v2.16
2nd image : SUM8 scan RICOHJPN R02 03 at 8x on my PX-712A.

All I can say about this is STAY AWAY FROM THE PX-712A !!
Buy a NEC, Pioneer, LG, LiteON or a Philips : cheaper AND better.

Hope we are not going to restart this discussion everytime one more “need to RMA” 712 shows up.

I guess it’s the new firmware bug… revert to 1.04

If you would have one of those you wouldn´t even know if it would
be writing a certain media bad!! :cop:
And if you get a working 712…

Good luck searching for media or hopefully not rmaing
