I was wondering what other users thought of RICOHJPN R03 media and whether its any good? I'm thinking of buying a spindle.
Quality will vary depending on the brand from what I've seen. I've seen some great burns, and I've seen some very average burns. If you listed the brand, that might help in deciding what sort of quality you can expect.
The Dynex ones I have tried were not good. The Memorex branded were prettygood but you won't know if they are RICOHJPN R03 until you open them.
Yes I agree. The Memorex branded RICOHJPN R03 I have burn well, but like you say you could also get CMC MAGM01.
Ricoh also sells these discs under their own brand. Some of the newer MIT Maxell 16x DVD+R discs are also RICOHJPNR03 :
Thay are under the Maxell brand. Thanks for the replies
I've not used the Maxell version, only Ricoh's own branded discs. WIth those I've had pretty good burn quality on a LG GSA-4163B, 4167B and a BenQ DW-1640 (all at 12x).
It does depend on what writer you are using. Some writers handle these discs better than others.
I've got a 50 pack of maxells from play.com and so far they're pretty good on my Pioneer DVR-111
I've done a scan of one here http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=1415238&postcount=93
Also have a 25 pack of Ricoh branded printables which I think came from bigpockets with simlar results.
The right link for RicohJPN-R03 [DVD+R 16x]is this one:http://sg.z-nix.com/2006/03/maxell-16x-dvdr-nonprintable.html
They are also sold under Imation brand in single Jewel cases (at least in Australia) Bit of a crap shoot as to whether you get them or not though.
Only burned a couple of them and they didn't seem anything special.
I've been looking for a good , moderately priced disc to use for non-essential data and I looked into the RicohJPN R03 as a possibility as the R01s were very good.
The scan results are fairly variable on this media and also they were rated the lowest rating on the C't Climatic Stability test so I would probably look for some other media personally.
I don't know where you live or whether they're in your market but for a cheap disc for "non-essential data" I would consider the 8x DataBank, MaxMax ,Record brand. The dash/- variant is MID (GSC003) (Gigastorage). They actually burn very well and so far the ones I've burned have held up well. The '+R' variant is often Sony D11 which is decent too.
Nice scan, only 95% marked very hard.
Sony must have 1 eec scanning interval?
I believe it is 1ECC, yup.
Back on topic, I was wondering about those discs, as well. They have them in my local ASDA, but I think I'll pass, since I have so many CMC MAG E01s to be going on with.
Yeah it's a rebadged LiteOn SOHW-1653S
Doh! What was I thinking? Thanks franz99.
