anyone know how this technology works :
testing a rival ripper program which has a cool feature of looking up the DVVD info online somewhere & putting meaningful names into title/chapter labels befoer you rip.
It would be great to see this in DVDFAB & it would be nivce if this reature worked with DVDfab backups butr it seems not to
The look-up feature only works when the source is a DVD in an optical drive & while it works OK with original DVDs it does not seem to work with full disc copies ( maybe it would with clones but I don't have any clones handy to test with).
a little googling suggests that dvds have EAN or UPC numbers & this is mostly likely how the lookups work ( as do CDs and most media players can now get CD track titles for you automatically to put into rips).
So I'm thinking that DVDFAB does not read/write these magic numbers into its full disc copies - though that is a guess as I don't know where on the DVD they are stored. ( this may also be how clearview works - see the recent thread on that topic).
TIP to DVDfab authors - if you want to study this reature & hopefully add it to DVDfab, look at the trial version of imtoo or xilisoft dvd ripper version 5.
