Retreive MPEG from a personal made DVD

vbimport

Hi,

I am new on this forum and perhaps somebody already answered my question:
I own a standalone DVD recorder (philips dvr 75 very popular in europe), and I have used it to record some personnal video with an old analog camcorder connected to the video input.
Now I have a dvd that I can read perfectly on any DVD reader (stand alone or PC), but what I want to do is to retreive on my PC the Mpeg flux to be able to make some editions: cut ininteresting parts , add menus, chapters, sounds…

How can I convert these VOB files to a standard Mpeg2 file to be able to use VEGAS, ULEAD suites or any other video editing or authoring software to create a final (professional ooking DVD).

Thanks for your answers and sorry again if this topic was already discussed here: give me the thread.

Alain

Use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode. In its Settings for IFO mode, set File Splitting to NONE. Rip the movie to your HD and now you will have 1 very big *.VOB file. just rename to *.MPG and then do what ever you want with it.

#3

Thanks,

I will try. I was not aware that the merge of the VOB files into one is an mpeg file.

Thanks again

Alain

I have a problem that is a little related to this one also. I have made a DVD with DVDShrink from 2 DVDs and the files in this DVD are:

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_0.BUP
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_0.IFO
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_1.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_2.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_0.BUP
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_0.IFO
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_1.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_2.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.BUP
N:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.BUP
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_0.BUP
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_0.IFO
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_1.VOB

As you can see I have several .IFO files. I am trying to convert this disk to VCD but have no idea how to feed all the VOB files into a program like DVD2SVCD. It only lets me put one IFO file. I have tried selecting also “file spliting” to NONE in the FILE settings of DVD Decrypter (I am on file mode) but it doesn’t produce one big VOB file. I don’t know what I am doing, I am lost here.
Please give me a hand. Thanks a lot.

#5

As I said above use IFO Mode, not File mode.

But there are 4 sets of VOB files,

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_1.VOB

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_1.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_2.VOB

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_1.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_2.VOB

Which ones are the movie and whick ones are extras etc ? I doubt all 4 are part of the movie. Just play each individual VOB file (WinDVD, etc plays them fine) to find out which is which and in what order. Lets assume it was

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB and

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_1.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_2.VOB

that make up the full movie. Then rename the last 2 VOB files (only) to

N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB
N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB

Load in the N:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO file into DVD2SVCD, ignore the movie length reported, set it up for VCD encoding and then hit start.

Hi CM

They are all movies, I have combined 2 different DVDs (they are some dance courses) in that disk, so every VOB file set is a movie, but some of them are divided as you can see. I will extract them using IFO mode (bummer that you cannot select the 4 VOB sets at the same time, you must extract every VOB set at once) and then process them into DVD2SVCD with TMPGENC following your guide.

Q: The DVD is not encrypted, do I still need DVD Decrypter to extract the files? Cannot I just copy them directly from the disk to the HD?

I will post to see how it went. Thanks a lot.

#7

Okay, but now I’m confusesd as to what you want to do. Either encode EACH movie separately to a VCD, or combine them all together and encode to VCD. If combined, then just just rename them all as abouve to be in 1 sequence and encode. Or, encode each movie to 1 mpg file each and then use TMPGEnc to join & cut them to CDR size.

Yes you can just copy the files from the not decrypted dvd to your HD but actually I find DVD Decrypter 100 times faster to do the job.

I have a problem, and it happens everytime I try to use DVD2SVCD. The process is stopped with the following error:

bbMPEG - error:
Could not find User Data at I-frame 4040 in file e:\vcd\bbmpeg_muxed_file01.mpg

I get the 2 mpg files but none of them play, the first one plays but it is empty (player just count the time but there is no sound or picture), the 2nd one doesn’t even play, just shows an error. FIles are 795 and 657MB.

What can be wrong here?

This is the DVD2SVCD log:

You MUST load in the VCD.ini file when making VCD’s. In the Misc tab, hit Load Settings button and niviget to your DVD2SVCD installation folder. This will setup DVD2SVCD for compliant VCD production. I see you have Audio set at 192 bitrate, this is NOT a VCD standard, it should be 224.

I have loaded VCD.ini already, and I have rechecked. It continue comming 192 as bitrate in the audio tab. I will try to modify it manually then. I am following your guide for using DVD2SVCD with TMPGenc exactly.

Is there any other thing that can be wrong?

#11

I’ve included my VCD.ini file that I use for std VCD compilation. Just cut and paste into Notpad and save out as VCD.INI You may have to point to TMPGenc.exe, etc as you will probably have them in differnt folders than me.

Hi Chicken Man ,
Your answer to Alain (retreive mpeg from video-ts) was also very helpfull to me:my problem was whow reediting an existing video-ts file containing three titles in a new video file with only one title including the three original ones? Having used DVD Decryptor allowed me to rename de three VOB files to MPG and convert them back to ONE video title via TMPGE .
Thanks for the tip , this is my first day in the club .
