Hi to All. I have or rather had an assembled desktop consisting of an MSI mobo Neo-845-V, Intel CPU P4 3.2 GHz, 1 P-ATA maxtor 160 GB, 1 S-ATA Maxtor 200 GB, 1 DVD reader-writer Samsung, 1 CD Plexwriter Plextor, 1 GB memory. This morning when I pressed the desktop's button it refused to start and instead fell into a loop of continuously restarting but never displaying the windows logo. I tried all kinds of tools that a veteran power user can think of: ultimate bootdisc with harddisc, system, file, memory utilities, maxtor utilities, NTFS4DOS, acronis loader loading system partition image, linux kernel on CD, WinXP cd to reinstall the system, all in vain. They all failed. It was impossible to touch the harddiscs. The loop of restarts continued. Hours went by and finally I decided to dismantle the HD containing the system partition. Then I wanted to install WinXP on the second HD. First using Maxtor utility I managed to access the HD and tested it and did low level formatting. This went well. Encouraged I started installing WinXP, but no after the first few minutes the infernal restarting loop commenced. So sitting by the computer contemplating what to do next suddenly there was an explosion at the rear side of the computer where the power supply is and a short flame with smoke was propulsed towards the wall. Luckily I was not close to the computer. I immediately disconnected the current and later dismantled the power supply. I have never seen this before. I am writing this with the hope that it may prevent similar incidents in the future. Your suggestions and comments are all welcome.
