Resource for learning how to use DVD burning software?

Is there a good resource out there for learning how to use all this burning software? I’ve been using Nero 6 for a while, but just for really basic stuff. There are is so much software out there, like DVD shrink, ImgBurn, etc., but I don’t know how to use any of it and it’s all a bit daunting. I’ve tried to figure it out by looking through this site and otherwise searching online, but it hasn’t been easy, or very helpful, doing it that way. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You are in the right place…expecially if you have a specific question…just ask in the appropriate forum.
Folks here are generally very knowledgeable and willing to help…

So let´s know what you´d like to be able to do?

I’ve posted a question before and everybody was really helpful. I was curious if there was a way for newbies to figure it out without pestering people with questions.

I do have one specific question though. I tried using Nero 6 to burn a Memorex dual layer DVD-R. I got an error message when I selected DVD-VR on the first screen of Nero Vision saying that the disk wasn’t a valid disk. We’ve used this type of disk in the past and haven’t had a problem. We recently tried the Nero 7 demo but we could never get it to work so we unstalled it using cleantool from the Nero website, cleaned the registry, etc. and re-installed Nero 6 with all of the updates from the website. This is the first time I’ve tried to burn something after this. One last thing - the specific disk I tried was one that I had tried to use with Nero 7 but could never get to work. Nero would go through the entire process and after 3 hours give me an error and say it couldn’t burn the disk (I checked and the disk is still blank). I posted that error log here and someone suggested that Memorex is the problem and that I should try Verbatim. I guess my question is why is Nero 6 telling me that the disk is not a valid disk to use as a DVD-VR. Is it still the Memorex/Verbatim issue? Thanks!

#4

It’s possible that the Memorex media isn’t recognised by your burner - sensible burner - so Nero can’t deal with it.

What burner do you actually have?

#5

Go to the side below and download the help file for NeroVision of the Nero 6 or 7 versions. There is some information there about what will and won’t work for DVD-VRs and even which type of discs will work.

#6

We have used the same burner and the same disks and it worked fine before. The single layer Memorex works fine. What I am trying to use is the Memorex DVD+R 2.4x 8.5GB. I guess the simplest thing would be to try the Verbatim. It’s a shame because we bought a bunch of the Memorex and don’t really have anything else to use them for. Thanks again.

#7

I just opened up a new disk and it seems to be working. Maybe something was wrong with the actual disk. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for your help. And your patience with my stupid questions!

#8

Ok, I spoke too soon. I started burning the disk and I got an error about a minute into it. I don’t know how much to post, so I’m going to post the error part of it. Thanks for any help.
