I would like to know if someone has encountered this problem with NERO 6
I have configured My IBM T42 to use a Mitsubishi DD522452UE external USB 2.0 case with a Sony DRU510a DVD burner using nero 6.3.0.2 and have been burning numerous numbers of movies. I have been doing this for 8 months and have upgraded the laptop to SP2 and also added a USB 2.0 / Firewire combo card in the PCMCIA slot and have no problems until i updated nero and the software from IBM, i have removed nero with the cleaner software and reinstall 6.3.0.2 but problems still exists. i have updated the firmware to the DVD burner still no fix. I have saved some log files and compard them with other users with the same problem and they are the same. Problem is it worked perfectly before. I have tryed ASPI driver changes, and have got i to the point were it will simulate with out any problems but as soon as it goes to burn it will fail.

Any Ideas

There is a thread of epic proportions on this very subject - usb 2.0 enclosures and nero etc etc

There have been a few ppl with good results/workarounds, but nothing definitive yet

Have not been able to find anything on the devices i am using at this moment.
Will have to strip the case to find the chip set and if there is any way to update if possble.

@ creaky , cencosys
Not to be outdone, we have a thread of epic proportions, too:). The best thing to do is to take your laptop and burner to the computer store and try different PCMCIA cards(or enclosures) until you find one that works

#5

so you do, good grief will av to read this one now. I only recently came across cdfreaks forums. so gota play catch up…

#6

@ cencosys
If you try my suggestion, I hope you will post your results as to what combo worked for you. You might also want to post to the other thread with your working combination. That may help some of the others with this problem.

OK i have solved the problem, At first i tryed a number of drivers (http://www.bare-bone.com/download/bb-addon-card.htm) and research the chip set in the external enclosure which was the ALI M5621 chip set and had no luck using another program called Pinnicale Instant CD/DVD 8 and still got the problem of burning failing within the first few minutes but the error messages were different due to the program.
But then i remebered an error message from when the problem first started which was to do with DAO, so i tried changing to SAO and i have been burning succesfully again.
The problem with Nero is it fixes to DAO and cannot be changed under DVD burning (or can it) but with CD/R burning you get the option.
So if any one knows if DAO and SAO can be modified through the program or the registry i would like to know for future refference. But for now i will keep using this program as it has more options for capturing DV and creating DVD’s than nero and will work with Linear digital editing suites as used by TV stations. ( a friend works there and Nero gave me problems.)

Nero version: 6.0.0.0

Recorder: Version: A07J

  • not sure what the latest firmware revision is for this drive

Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr : 1
Drive is autodetected - recorder class: Std. MMC recorder

  • yup, Nero’s too old to recognise your burner, update Nero

Physical memory : 255MB (261488kB)
Free physical memory: 66MB (67728kB)
Memory in use : 74 %

  • you have virtually no free memory left, and only 256MB to start with

00:06:17.712 DVDRW IDE 16X : WriteBuffer reduced to 32768 Bytes

SCSI-Layer send CDRERR_BUFFER_TO_BIG to writer

00:06:27.796 DVDRW IDE 16X : WriteBuffer reduced to 30720 Bytes
see my last comment about ATAPI drivers, if that doesn’t help, try burning at 4x. to save wasting discs, try ‘simulation’ burns that go thru the motions of a burn with a blank disc but don’t write to the disc, but do produce another burn log entry
