Reset error when burning with external dvd burner

vbimport

#1

I have a Maddog external 16x DVD burner (rebadged NEC3500) on a WinXP computer running the latest Nero 6.6.03.

I’ve been having issues when creating DVD videos using existing video files on my computer. I tried seperating the processes so I can tell if the issues occurs during the transcoding stage or the burning stage. I was able to transcode all the files and put them into an appropriate dvd video format and save it to disk. Next, I attempted to burn the files to disc. Unfortunately, I get the following error:

It seems my drive resets when burning. Its frustrating because I’m using the latest firmware and Nero software updates. I can’t seem to find a solution. Can anyone help me? I’ve attached detailed logs for more information.

Nice post:). Your system config looks good, but your error is probably a config thing. I noticed in your infotool that you have a memory stick reader(internal?) and a HDD attached through USB. I am assuming you are doing nothing on your system during the burn attempt.

Question 1 Can you try a burn with the USB HDD unplugged, unplug the memory stick reader if it is external?

Question 2 Can the burner/drive burn CD’s. can it read DVDs/CDs?

Question 3 Can you try a simulated burn through nero?

#4

Ok, I think I figured it out. I disconnected all my USB devices except for the ext dvd burner. Now it works! So, it seems one of my other USB devices was messing with my drivers or something. Hopefully someone else may read this and find it useful.

Cliff Notes Disconnect all other usb devices when using an external usb dvd burner.

#5

@ cypha12
Great I’m glad you resolved that for your system. it will be helpful for others to try…thanks for posting back.

However that may be too generalized a statement to make for all. I have a laptop and a USB external burner and I also have a hub with several items plugged in. I do have the burner plugged into its own USB port, though, and the hub in my other USB port. So it is just a specific conflict with your specific system specs(say THAT 3 times fast:)).

#6

OK, ITS BACK!!! I tried making a new dvd video disc and the rest error is back. I removed all USB devices except for my burner and used new discs. This is frustrating. I’m back to square one.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

#7

@ cypha12

There are a ton of people out there with nero/usb2.0 external burner issues. You can follow this huge ongoing thread, maybe they will arrive at a solution you can use. There is a nero guy working on the problem there, but he is on vacation right now. There are several attempted solutions, but one which IMHO applies best to you would be to try disabling/deactivating ‘burnproof protection’ and ‘dvd high compatability’ in nero.

If you previously had sonic recordnow software, but uninstalled it, you could try backing-up and deleting or renaming this file

Thats so funny, I have that exact thread bookmarked! Well, things got worse today. I made an image of the disc I wanted to burn in Nero and thought I could burn it with Alcohol 120%. It didn’t work!!! OMG, I think the drive is bad now. I emailed that Craig guy on the afterdawn forum and asked him for that mcc.dll file, hoping that may work.

#9

UPDATE I finally got my drive to burn a DVD-R disc. What I did was use DeepBurner and CopyToDVD to burn an image made with Nero to DVD. I was able to make 2 exact burns of the image file using these 2 programs without and problem. What upsets me is that I actually paid/bought Alcohol120% and Nero and those don’t even work. I really don’t want to have to buy another piece of software to use my drive.

I called Mad Dog Multimedia, the makers of my drive, and they are sending me some new firmware to try out. I’ll update once I play around with it.

Any new info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

#10

@ cypha12
Thats good news, but a shame that nero won’t work. However it does verify that it is a nero problem/conflict and not a system problem/conflict. Can you look at your infotool and see if there are any new drivers there? Did you get to try the mcc.dll file? I saw some guy in that thread put up a link on his site for the download to be available outside of Craig. Also, it is possible that there is a conflict between burning softwares. You could try to remove ALL burning software, then use nero cleantool, and then reinstall nero fresh.

#11

I tried removing all the burning software programs. After removing all of them, I installed Alcohol to burn the image file. No luck. Then I installed the two trial/free programs, which worked. Then I tried Alcohol again, thinking it might work. No luck. I still haven’t installed Nero.

The support guy from Mad Dog Multimedia never emailed me the new firmware. I’m a bit upset. The support so far has stunk from them.

No luck with the mcc.dll file either. I tried emailing the Nero guy, but to no avail. I’ll check out that link. Thanks for the update.

#12

@ cypha12
Did you use the nero clean tool to help removing ALL traces of ALL burning programs? They will not remove themselves with just the normal ‘uninstall’ operation, and they are the very files that cause conflicts.

#13

hmmm… wondering which is the correct way to use the Nero Clean Tool…AFTER removing the program via Control panel/Add/Remove Programs applet or not…?

TIA

#14

@ Ulysses
The General clean tool should be used to remove the program…sorry I wasn’t clearer on that. It is good to run the other clean tools(Driver, registry, InCD) if you have already ‘uninstalled’ nero without ‘general clean tool’.

#15

I have used the Clean Tool when uninstalling Nero. I even scoured my registry afterwards just to make sure any keys/settings weren’t still around. Afterwards, I installed Nero using the updated files off the site. Unfortunately, its still a no go. To get around, I use Nero to make the disc and image it. Then I open up DeepBurner to burn the image file to a DVD disc. It sucks to add the extra step, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

#16

I know that this is an old topic but still, since im desperated ill leave you my doubt. I have an Asus dvd-recorder (external), and it was working just fine till yesterday when it stopped recording dvds, it still records cds but whenever i try to burn a dvd it gives me the same old message
"RESET OCCURRED".
For the first time I saved the log but i dont quite understand it completely, Ill be really greatful if someone can help me finding the issue (if theres one that can be found by looking the log)

One thing that i noticed was that 1 DMA was OFF, meybe is that i dont know… but it was recording quite well till yesterday

Thank you very much and excuse my english, its just that Im Argentinian
