Researchers of the University of Southampton have found a way to store 360 TB of data on a piece of glass. The data is stored on a nanostructure in a piece of quartz written by a femto laser.

What we really need instead is a storage medium that we can set to self-destruct after X years!!!

It’ll be interesting whether they can achieve this with other laser types.

Femto lasers are mainly used for laser eye surgery and unsurprisingly are incredibly expensive. On the other hand, if these can be mass produced, maybe it’ll bring down the price of laser eye surgery.
