Two researchers of the University of Northern Iowa discovered that second hand USB drives often contain confidential and private information. The researchers were able to recover information with forensic software and by disassembling the USB drives.

Before you dispose of old HDD or USB drives, always make sure to format them with a hammer.

I remember getting an Integral USB drive for my sister a while back. I chose one which came with encryption software on a separate partition so the whole drive could be encrypted.

Then the inevitable happened, she forgot the password and kept trying the incorrect password until the software wiped the drive.

[B]All of her files could then be easily recovered from the empty drive using basic undelete software![/B] :eek:
