No a netbook is not the same as the notebooks you bought 2 years ago.
These are much smaller and lighter, better wireless capability (mine has wireless N and even Bluetooth) and have much better battery life. I get at leat 4- 5 hours out of mine and the newer Atoms get at least 7! You can easily watch two movies and surf the net without plugging in.
Plus, they are very inexpensive for what you get in my opinion.
Yes I jumped the gun on USB 3.0 I should have known better. No way in hell that thing would have this capability it is a bit early for that. I guess this is why I went back and looked again...
About your system Dual Layer DVD, it would be very nice indeed and I don't think we have to wait much longer than you mention as things are in high gear in an effort to generate sales I am sure. We only have to hope for SSD to come down in cost quickly to make the system you mention competitive.
Watch what happens when the Nvidia Ion systems hit the market place- these things will fly off the shelves- and I think when Win7 comes out- it will even further enhance sales as Win 7 has been tailored for Netbooks and supposed to maximize performance. Drool
The only thing is- I am not sold on touch screen yet as I just don't really get it. Also, even on Win 7 there is a problem or two with touch screen and they only have 90% reliability with program specific "gestures". Prior to this, they were at 75%. Imagine if your keyboard malfunctioned 1 out of 10 times???
