Replacing bad DVD drive

XP Home SP3
Old CDW/DVD Toshiba burner. Model not in the above list.

It seems my Toshiba is acting up, even after updating its firmware.

I am going to Best Buy & p/u a new burner- seems they they all have Lightscribe.

So do I have to do anything in the Device Mgr before shutting down the PC?
I also do not see any Toshiba software in Add/Remove.

Also, Does Lightscribe come with its own software install? I probably will never use it so wondering if I can skip that part of the install.

thx

Windows should recognize the new burner after install. Your firmware upgrade is in the burner not in windows. No you don’t have to do anything in Device Mgr.

when you say the firmware is in the burner - the actual hardware?

So when I remove the old unit, the firmware goes with it?

Just want to make sure.

Yep. All drives have their own firmware, though.
