i would like to share another way of dealing with a defective drive.
my LVW-5104's drive gave out and i found a SOHW-1213s
on ebay to replace it.
after trying the new drive in a computer like its recommended in other posts i decided it was time to open the drives case. i discovered the guts are identical in size and shape to the now defunct original drive.
w/o to much tech explanation i'll say the parts including laser assembly fit the original DDW-451's plastic case perfectly. and of course there were no physical modifications needed afterwards.
my new drive loads and is ready to record in half the original time. and it fits like a glove:>)
this refurb requires an ability to disassemble the ribbob lead, loading motor etc.
its not a project for the faint of heart.
