The DVD burner in my laptop isnt working and as it was a piece of crap in the first place, I thought I’d just replace it rather than getting it fixed.
I have an Acer Aspire 1680 with a Matshita UJ-831D.
Can anyone recommend a good replacement dvd burner that is compatible with my machine?

I would contact and ask Acer, because the replacement drive NEEDS to have an appropriate firmware on it.
Maybe a drive from LG, Pioneer or NEC.
You can try another Matshita UJ-831D

I have replaced both of mine in both of my laptops with no problems! Remember this is a bare drive and all he has to do is put the harness and slide it in! No firmware needed…if bought in the right country. Come on now! I have done over 50 replacement laptop drives at my work alone in just the last year!! Trust me he can’t go wrong with Optiarc when he orders it will come ready to go.
