Replaced cd/dvd combo doesn't show up on "my computer"

My grandaughter has a ToshibaSatellite laptop M115 â€“S1061 with Windows XP home edition and she broke the tray on the CD/DVD drive.

The broken drive was Panasonic model UJDA770 . I ordered a new UJDA770 and installed it. It spins and seems to be doing something, but it doesn't show up on the "my computer" screen. I figured if i got the same model there wouldn't be any problem with the software, but if I knew what I was doing I wouldn't have to ask for help.

Look at the top of both drives, find out the current firmware.

Thanks so much for responding. I checked the top of both drives. The old one had FW1.50 and HW 1.00, and the NEW one has FW 1.00 and HW1.01.

Can I download updates for the firmware???
