Repeated Errors on burning DVD on LG HL-DT-ST-GH22NS50

Hi,
I am getting repeated verification error on data burnt on above mentioned DVD writer… Right from beginning I had bought this drive…

My Current PC Config:

GIGABYTE MOATHERBOARD - M61PME S2P

4 GB DDR2 (2 GB 8 2 STICKS)
AMD ATHELON 7750 PROCESSOR - 2.7 GHZ DUAL CORE
HDD:

 1. 160 GB IDE WESTERN DIGITAL
 2. 1 TB SATA SEAGATE

DVD WRITERS:

 1. LG- HL-DT-ST- H42N B - - 2 YEARS OLD… WOULD HAVE BURNT AT LEAST 1000 DVDS ON IT.

 2. LG HL-DT-ST-GH22NS50 (SATA)… NEW… WOULD NOT HAVE BURNT EVEN 50 DVDS… IN FACT RIGHT FROM BEGINNING IT KEPT GIVING THIS KIND OF ERRORS…

OPERATING SYSTEM:

 1. WINDOWS XP SP2 64 Bit… UP TO DATE…
 2. Win. Xp MCE 32 bit…

BURNING SOFTWARE USED:

NERO 7.9.6
NERO 8
IMG BURN 2.4, 2.5

On various other Operating systems also the same drive gives errors… irrespective of Type of Media used…

To my good luck / frustration:confused:… my OLD LG DVD writer gives excellent performance on the same PC… on IDE channel… it writes at 16x without any glitch on the same media that keep giving error with New GH22… Drive… EVEN if burning at 4X. . . I strongly suspect its DVD writer’s fault… but Never got time to take tit to service center to throw it on to their heads… I checked in both PAGEFILE enabled and removed mode… and Changing SATA ports they are connected on to… but no luck… DMA is Fine in device manager… very frustrating…:a:a

I earlier had eread mostly in forums that SATA ODDs are not very matured and good… but thought over 2 -3 years it would have improved… but apparently i was wrong… and i made a mistake by ???UP- grading?? my ODD along with buying the new CPU…:a:confused:

PLease HElp me if someone can…

PS:

I even tried in windows 7, 64 bit… but NO LUCK

HERE is the IMG burn LOG:

Welcome back to the forum ashu-p

First off Sata drives work very well, no problems. The LG drive you bought however isn’t one of the better ones, infact one of the worst :stuck_out_tongue:
When buying a new drive you can read the reviews here at club.myce also there are previews in the forums from members that can give you a good idea as to whether its going to be a good drive or not.

So the media your using simply isn’t well supported by the drive, and ‘MBIPG101-R05-01’ isn’t one of the better blank discs that members here would like to use. If your old burner can handle them then thats great, just buy a different disc next time.

Since your FW is up to date anther thing to try is IMGburn, but don’t use 4x or 16x, try 8x or 12x. Also you might want to get into running error scans in the future that way you can know right away how well your drive handles a new disc. Use Nero CD/dvd speed to test discs or the new (but not free) Opti Drive Control. I’m not sure if your drive supports error scans you can check the LG forum and do some searches on how to get it to work (might require a registry change).

Hi, thanks for the efforts… eric93se

Here in India We are the Beggars not choosers… Every time you go to buy hardware, you get different… and U won’t get what U want… BAD… So really U can’t read review about something unless u know what U R actually going to get when U go to market…

About SONY DVD RW Drives… EVERYONE I know who has bought SONY DVD writers are Crying Out loud… right from beginning… and Service centers in India and Sony’s services really poor here… I used to suggest them in favor of LG DVD RW drives…; And Most of the SONY’s DVD RW Drives I encounter are Liteon Made… I am not very fond of some company which disguises other company’s products under it’s Big name and doesn’t deliver the quality… I consider it as cold blooded 2nd degree Cheating…

That way At least LG drives are made by LG in collaboration with Hitachi… So at least they are authentic… and Not Cheaters…

Thjs is my 4th LG DVD Super multi drive… but NO issue before this incident… All before this one i bought were IDE… I am seriously thinking of throwing it away if not replaced for good… and Replacing it with a IDE one… Only catch is I don’t have any free IDE port… so…

And Yes… I tried at all the speeds… but NO Luck… 5 out of every 6 DVDs I burn are having same problem…

I have tested it with EVEN Samsung / SONY’s RW or DVD R media… but the same problem persists…only difference is a Costly media gets wasted this way…

Hi ashu_p

I’ve heard about the lack of choices, mainly with media, from other MyCE members from India. :iagree:

I’ve found the LG drives I have generally get on pretty well with discs made by Moser Baer India, however since your LG drive is one of the more recent ones, it may act differently with them.

The first thing I would suggest would be to uninstall your Virtual Drive/Emulation software until this problem is solved (from what I can see in your log, you have Elby Virtual CloneDrive installed?) - this and other similar programs can often interfere with a burn.

If that doesn’t help, then maybe try and find some Verbatim DVD+R if you can, maybe just a small pack to try. And finally, does a friend or family member have a PC with SATA ports that you can test the drive in?

#5

Another thing to try is a strategy swap, check to see if your drive is supported with the ‘MCSE’ and swap in the T02 writing strategy for that MBI crap media you have now.

The GH22NS50 is the worst drive that I ever tested. Most probably your problem isn’t the media but the drive itself.
I sugest you to exchange the drive by another model if possible.

Today the only average DVD Burner from LG is the GH22NP20 ( good for DVD+R ). I recommend buy a Liteon ( iHAS124/324/524 ) or a Samsung 24x ( the 22x series isn’t good ).

Except that the only “average” LG drive is a PATA drive, not an SATA drive. It’s sad that the last two series of LG-branded drives have gone down the crapper in terms of write performance and quality. And over in India the OP has no choice at all whatsoever of which DVD drive that he’ll be getting (the shops over there will simply give him a random DVD drive of their choice).

Hi,

By the way, its just to let u people know that LAST NIGHT It Burnt 3 Same DVDs media in Neck to Neck Competition with My Old Drive… at 18X and Successfully Verified it too… That too in Parallel with old drive… Simultaneously… Without making any change in system…:rolleyes:

BUT

When it came to Burn 4th one…

It Got back to its Original character of WASTING THE MEDIA…:a:sad::Z:Z

By the way… Earlier I had Alcohol 120%… with SPTD… But Thanks to IMG Burn…
I rem oved it and put NON-SPTD version of Virtual drives… Any Way… I will disable/ uninstall them and test again…

#12

Don’t burn at max speed

#13

Hi, Today I took it out of my system and Give it to service center… i will get a replacement in a week… lets hope that replacement won’t be so crappy piece…

Will Update it later…

#14

Hi, I went to Service center, and they were giving me the Same Drive saying that it works fine…:a:a and that they couldn’t get any error…:disagree::a:Z

Then I had to Enter their lab and see for myself how had they checked…

What the hell… they were using Sony’s DVD RW … at Max Writing speed of 2x… And on top of that they were putting hardly a few hundred MB of data…

I had to put a Full 4+GB of data AND BY LUCK … HAPPENED TO Reproduce the write error even on 2x burning speed… They Gave me a New Piece which had come after refurbishing directly from LG for buffering replacement… it was THE SAME MODEL… GH22HS50

I decided to take it… but I got a Blank DVDR to check it on… and It took 100 minutes to Write and Verify 4 GB of data… at speed of 16X…:a:a And I noticed that during whole time their CPU was using 100% of its power…:Z

I guessed they had VIRUS of Driver Issue…

Anyway…When I got it with me… now ti is Still NOT as Good As My OLD Drive… But… Yes… it writes without error… till now i have burnt 6 DVDs without error…
