Repair of Samsung 56inch flatscreen

Ok, I already fixed the power supply but it looks like someone tried to fix the band at the bottom of the screen before the power supply went out. I am good on electronics but not real good on diagnosing screen problems.

So you did the top and can’t do the bottom how could that be?? Why didn’t you fix the bottom the same as the top? Also your going to need a manual that shows you how to take the Samsung apart piece by piece if you intend to fix it. Also show no signal with all the fuzz doesn’t help much to know if the samsung is even in working order. How about taking a screen shot of a more visual screen that would help more. That screen doesn’t tell much or even tell what the picture quality is like???

I fixed the power supply back in this empty warehouse with no signal and just grabbed a pic with my cell phone. There is plenty of info in this pic. But I think I will just take my pic and leave this forum because I sense an “intention of heart that is crap” My girlfriend would know more about electronics than this arrogant person… I fix probably 20+ tv’s per night (mostly analog) and hardly ever use prints and I don’t need this kind of disrespect. Coolcolors is trying to help you so there’s no need to be rude.

Bear in mind that these forums are open to everyone and you probably already have electronics skills in excess of the vast majority of the users here.

What’s the source that isn’t being displayed?

Do all sources display in the same manner (internal tuner, DVD player, games console etc)?

Oh and what model is it?

Spence, some of us are skilled at fault diagnoses but when it is being carried out at a distance information is the key.
It is most helpful if you can tell us the model number of the Samsung.
What was replaced in the power supply, do we know if the set had a fault condition before power failure and was it the “split screen” shown in your photo?
Have you tried an input as suggested by Wombler and if so what was the outcome?
If the set got damaged by either a power surge or lightning strike it may be hard to track down all that has been damaged.
you will have to be patient with us as being an international board we live in different time zones and it can take 24hrs in between replies.

The unit would not power up when I got it. I replaced the 10v caps for the 5v ps and then it powered up. I can’t get back to the warehouse until wed but was hoping that someone knew enough about that fade from left to right and the approximate width of the band to have some idea because. My father was inventor of the year of the State of Florida and I have owned several electronics businesses and worked on all sorts of amps and video and monitors but the flat screens especially the LCD technology I am not that sure of. So if you know where a good lcd theory site is that would be helpful.

As for trying an input I did but at the moment I wanted to take a pic I could not get a signal to the unit and had to leave on a trip. Also yes all sources display in the same manner as I did try that but I do believe that it is a screen problem and not a logic problem. After repairing the PS I then found this problem and I began to look into it and noticed that someone had tried to repair that part earlier and two of the lamps at the bottom had been disconnected and reconnected and the screws for the screen part had been broken or the plastic broken that they thread into but that did not seem to effect the screen.

I for myself done repairs on CRT before they came out with LCD. And know that one must have a service manual to even begin to diagnosis the problems of CRT and LCD without that getting any reasonable help is beyond any repairs. And as for my intent let’s not go there trying to put words into others mouth is akin to me calling your pants on fire. I seen my share of people whom wants the rest to do their repairs but fail to even do their homework first as well. So remember the blade cuts both ways poster and OP as well. Want help ask for it but when people ask common sense question of things that should’ve been done already and they bulk tells me their real intent.

I have fixed about 2200 tv’s in my present business that I run and never used a schematic, if You have a [B]feel for current flow[/B] and a good understanding of circuits like switching power supplies then it is all repetitive, oh and a nose. Ok. so no one can lead me to a faq or anything like that about lcd theory and problems such as bands like. Your fine color, I would just work on your approach.

Coolcolors is right a circuit diagram is most helpful when tackling an unknown make/set. However like you I have fixed numerous pieces of electronic equipment using my eyes, a multimeter and common sense.

it could be one of a number of boards X, Y, or the control board etc.
if you research the net you may get guidance as to what board is causing the problem and if it is an economical repair.
