Is this real Taiyo Yuden media?
What tests should I run to see what the quality of this media really is?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds fake to me.

Before we can tell you what tests you need to do you will have to tell us who makes your drive.

It is likely faked. Consult the fake TY thread at the top of the forum to see how to confirm this.

I use a NEC 3550 that I crossflashed to 4551.

I also own a Pioneer 106d but that one does not write to 8x media.

IMHO, buying any rebranded TY (barring one of the major brand name labels) is just not smart. Way too many reports of fake TY under such no-name rebrands for me to think otherwise. Which country are you located in and how much did you pay for them.

The usual acid test is the serial numbers on the discs : you’re looking for a serial number of the form GGxxxxxx on the area around the hub ring on the recording side of the disc. If it is real TY it should be there.

There is no serial number around the hub ring.
I did not know they were “TY” when I bought them. They were being sold as “JOYCE” and were cheap so I just bought one to check it.
Alrioght, I can see they are fake and will not buy anymore.
Thanks for your help
