Well it can depend on what you are ripping... DVD Decrypter slows down when ripping a CSS protected disc on a drive that hasn't been set to a certain regio, or that is set to an other region than the disc is!
Another option, is that the drive is locked to rip only up to 2x. Some other drives, like the Toshiba SD-M1712, have this problem was well. With hacked firmware, this problem can possibly be solved. I just checked rpc1.org for you, but there aren't any custom firmwares for your drive available yet. It may be worth to wait a while....?
