Why people were expected to pay $49.99 a month is beyond me. For a one-time payment of about that same amount, you could simply buy a shiny new hard drive, and have the peace of mind of knowing that RapidShare employees (and any government agencies with subpoenas/search warrants) will not have access to your data.

In any case, I suppose RS’s time has come. It will be missed by “pirates” and “legitimate” file sharers everywhere.
