This is the same thing I had to do with my Western Digital 120's and built-in RAID, on cold boot it would not detect any drives, but cable select solved it all.
I always wondered whether this firmware update would also solve the problem. Seems very related to the problem we both had. I was planning on using it once I emptied a drive, just in case.
