Raid & IDE slowdowns!

I’ve recently noticed a HUGE decrease in my PC’s speed.

After benching the HD’s I’ve found the Issue.

Problem: 160GB Raid array & 120GB WDJB both bench on average 45MB/s read, alternating peaks/minimums at 60MB/s & 40MB/s.

I’m obviously not impressed since the system has been dead stable for approx 4 months
After reinstalling IDE & ITE8212 drivers and aspi layer, problems remain.

No new programs have been installed in the last 2 weeks.
HD’s have been thoroughly defragged using MS defrag :).
System has been scanned with NAV with Virus definitions dated 28-4-04, and with Lavasoft adaware with ref files dated 28-04-04.

Anyone have any clues? Known issues with recent M$ security updates related to Iosubsys, IDE, etc?

Setup:
XP1800+
512MB DDR333
120GB WD1200JB (8mb Cache) as primary master @UDMA5 / 100MB/s
2x80GB Maxtor HD’s in Raid 0 config on ITE8212 onboard Raid controller
LTD166s as secondary Slave @UDMA3 / 45MB/s (?)
LDW811s as secondary master @ UDMA2 / 33MB/s.

WinXP Pro SP1a with all current security updates.

(dd/mm/yy)

IDE driver using M$ “Standard Dual channel IDE” version 5.1.2600.1106 (01-07091)
ITE8212 using driver version 1.6.1.8 (13-01-04)

Adaptec aspi Version 4.6/1021 (all issue 1021)

I wouldn’t us the MS defragger because it is a very dumb down version of Diskeeper. I personally use O&O Defrag 6 Pro since it has more options on how you defrag.

Regardless… the performance is incredibly low, approx 2/3-1/2 the expected speed, lots of very large files are on the drive for read testing, lots of large empty and unfragmented areas for read/write testing.

Scores are extremely low.
