Smart move, making some of the iPods with low quality casings so people will pay for extended warranties. And while you’re at it, let’s also add some software (which actually is required to use the largest part of the potential of the Video iPod) which costs 30$ ! Why the hell not, Sony seems to like this way too ! I see people coming to the store, buying an iPod Shuffle for 100€ and paying 30€ for a charger, 30€ for a neck thingie and whatnot. WTF, are we entering the gold age of pay-for-use ? I remember a time when accessories where just that, not nescessities ! Creative also crimped their MP3 players of accessories, just enough to get it connected and eventually recharged, IF you have a computer handy… Always fun when you’re travelling. Oh wait, first I need to dish out 30€…

Apple does business on the premise that there’s a sucker born eveyr minute and that sucker can be leeched and coned with shiney elitist garbage for a fat price. They’ve made a comfortable niche living on that concept for many years and the iPod junk is just the latest incarnation. No one ever lost money underestimating the stupidity of the general paying public.

Well, iPod’s biggest merit is actually its revolutionary low price.
