Question for Blueray writer users

Currently I don’t own any blueray optical devices. Thinking of getting one soon, but not sure if I need a burner or just a reader / DVD burner combo.

At the moment I don’t really have any need to make or backup DVD movies. Just wondering if BD burner owners ever use them for any other purpose than authoring or backing up DVD movies?

Backups are my predominant use. I want some of my data sealed off in a read only fashion at a point in time. Nowadays though most people seem to backup to HDDs, but for archiving I still much prefer optical media.

You will not find the CD/DVD use case of software being distributed on BluRays.

I use them for burning Blu-ray movies. Is that enough of a difference? :stuck_out_tongue:

I have rarely made pure data backups on Blu-ray.

I have one for ripping BD (Liteon) and one for burning BD (LG). (both burners)
I’m a specialist.

Also use a similar pair for ripping vs burning DVD.
