Hey Guys. I have a linksys router with 2 antennas. it’s one of the older blue and black ones. I’m looking to extend one of the antennas outside of the building because i want to be able to get signal from it 3-400 ft away. Now i have build a cantenna for the wireless adapter with proper LMR 400 cable for that part is covered but with the amount of tin in the building where the router is, i believe i have to extend the one antenna outside so there is line of site from the cantenna to the router antenna. Now i’m not sure how long my cable can be from the router using the extension cable and exactly what type of cable to use. I was thinking the following 2.

http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Router-Antenna-Extension-Cable/dp/B007600KY8 << that is option one with the lmr 240 cable but i need more than 15 feet. probably 30 i need.

option 2

Will both work? and is 9 meters too long to extend the antenna without having any problems with signal degradation or too much load on the router…etc…
thanks people…

First off we need to know what kinda linksys router your using? Just giving us the cable specs and hardware doesn’t help without knowing which linksys your asking about…???

Be careful, too long of a cable will also cause signal degrading, and if you have no control over transmit power, you can swap to all the longer cables and larger antennae that you want, but, unfortunately you will get no signal gain this way.

Real alternatives are to get repeaters, these are the cheapest option, or another same/similar router… in your case being it’s an old model pick one of from an ebay auction and bridge them, you will notice that the reesults should be much better.

The most costly alternative is to get a stand alone self powered amplifier 1watt or 2 watt (careful different regions are subject to FCC regulations in diff countries) and this will be a hardcore boost.
