I'm going to try it.
I've got the 5006 now (tho' it's still unopened) so if something goes wrong, I still have a machine to work with.
I found the serial number of my machine on the setup menu, and downloaded the zip file of the update software.
The file, extracted from the zipfile, is named Lnfa1098.es5...
Is that what I burn to a CD-ROM?
I tried to "save target" off the LiteOn link for "CD Burning Software", but it was a webpage, not a file.
I left clicked on it and got the page that showed mini versions of what windows I should get, and it seemed to say there'd be a lot of files to burn to the CD-ROM.
I've decided to try and not worry about that, and use my Nero software to burn the CD-ROM but why does my downloaded zipfile only have Lnfa1098.es5 when LiteOn seems to suggest there should be several files?
Again, is Lnfa1098.es5 the only file I need to burn to the CD?
If I put that on a disc and put it into my recorder, is that what'll update it, or is there something else that I'm missing?
Finally, if I do this update, I'm guessing it won't give me the three hour mode. (Is that right? And if so, WHY? If "we" can do it, why doesn't Lite On offer it too?)
If I then hunt up the ILO file and try to use it to achieve "unrestricted goodness" for the recorder , will it wreck anything I've done by using the file I just got from Lite On?
Sorry to be a pain...
