I can’t seem to write @ 4x, only @ 2x for my NEC 2500 drive. Can somebody explain to me those 4x writing stretegy lines?

AN30 is made at the same foctories as AN31, AN32, AML, AN35, IS01001 and infosmart. (yes all these ADIP’s comes from the same factories).

AN30 seems to be those with the lowest quality.
AN31 is slightly better but still bad.
AN32 is even better but still not good media.
Infosmart, AML and IS01001 seems to be on the same level as AN32 qualitywise.

In total all this media is not good and should be avoided.

I think NEC have limited the speed to 2x since the media is so crap quality.

Tested AN30 in these writers:

ND-2500A: 2X, but the disc is readable.
Plextor PX-708A: 4x but coaster.
All lite-On: 2X and coasters.
BTC DRW1004IM: 4x but coaster
BTC DRW1008IM: 2x and hardly readable
Pioneer 106: 4x and readable.
LG GSA-4040B: 2x and coaster.

Hey OC-Freak, thanks for your thorough reply!

I want to ask you about those 4x info that DVDInfo reported. Are those 4x info embedded on the disc itself or is it the drive?

On the side, did you burn the AN30 disc on the LG 4040B using A302 firmware?

Thanks once again!

Yep, the firmware is vA302 on the LG.

The info reported in DVDinfopro:

“Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps” = the maximum speed the drive allows on this disc.

“Write Strategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBps” = the maximum speed the disc allows.

OC-Freak, thanks for your reply once again!

Hmm…so the disc is actually 4x rated…I am trying to return the spindle back to where I got it from since my NEC can only burn it @ 2x.
