If some of you guys will recall, I had an issue with burns slowing down once burns got to around 40x (about 1/2way through a burn of a 700MB CD). Regardless of the type of data that I was burning (data, audio, etc), it would always slow down at the same point. In fact, this problem seemed to occur starting with the TY 52x media that I was using...
Now, fast forward to just a few days ago, when I upgraded from QS0C to QS0E...
And let me say, the results are great! I no longer get the slowdowns, and in fact, I can easily burn 6-10 CDs in a row (with very little time in between burns), and no slowdowns occur..
The reason I am writing this is because I think it wasn't high temperatures causing the slowdown as mentioned by a few other forum users here... (rdgrimes, if you will remember, you suggested this as a high possibility...)
It seems that QS0E probably included additional or modified information for my TY 52x CDRs, so that the drive would no longer slow down.
This goes to show that the original problem was probably due to the older firmwares not using 100% correct parameters when burning to the TY 52x CDRs.. Despite the fact that SmartBurn detected the media correctly, the drive sure wasn't using it correctly... or rather, optimally.
Either way, I'm extremely happy that my burn speeds are back to normal and if you're having the same problem as me, I suggest going to QS0E (this refers to the first gen of 52327s drives..)
