Q: I am seeking after the best IDE DVD-burner with low/lowest grade off writing error on Verbatim +R DL . Speed are not so important.

And also support book type setting for DVD +R / +R DL.

Personally I like Sony … some people also say Liteon is very good
Sony DRU840A … it can be had for around $40 or so … also on the main page of this forum, there is a section where they rate both the drives and the media.

I use Lite-on (I actually have two in my machine):

Only $26 at NewEgg!

-Thanks for input. I now have read the reivew for the Sony unit.

…But, the writing quality are not on top the for the Sony unit. Which model are better? ( note: for DVD +R DL and +R )

LJN,
For DL burner I’d go with the latest Pioneers (115/215) or NEC Optiarcs (72**)

It is more a matter of Which Media you buy. Stay away from stuff made in Taiwan or Korea … use only media made in Japan and try not to use the fastest speed. I always slow it down to around 4X
as I think it works better that way.

Verbatim MIT (made in Taiwan) MC 004 has proved better than Verbatim MIJ (made in Japan) TY 03.
In my experience.
When talking about DL burning. Most folk would opt for 4x.
However if you are saying 4x for SL, then I’d say that is a tad slow for modern burners/media.
8x <> 12x being most common burn speeds.
The Pioneer 115/116 being easily the best DL burners I’ve had.

85rx7:

-Yes, I always use Verbatim +R DL 2,4X or 4,0X!

And I read in the review they also use Verbatim +R DL 2,4X

But the writing have some “nasty” peaks?

I agree that media choice is crucial, but…
For DL media, the only consistently recommended media is
Verbatim +R DL (MIS)
Be certain to buy made in Singapore and not made in India (MII)
btw, verbatim +R DL media is not made in Japan

The MIDs are:
MKM 001 (2.4 - 4X) be certain it says MIS on the spindle label.
MKM 003 (up to 10X) be certain it says MIS on the spindle label.
The MKM 003’s are more picky re: burner and firmware, but will yield great burns given the right choice of burners and appropriate write strategy

:iagree:
For my money, the only MID I prefer over MCC 004, is YUDEN T02
IMO, you just can’t buy better SL media these days.
