I have been having problems with my 716UF drive as follows.
When connected as USB 2.0 I cannot read over 8X and the Plextools copy program takes almost 2 hours to write 4286MB. Even then it crashes after writing and verifying but before starting the Run Automated Diagnostic Tests.
With USB 2.0 connection the Roxio copy function works without crashing but I cannot get it to write or read over 8X.
When connected to IEEE1394 the drive will read up to 12X but still crashes when using Plextools copy. When using Roxio copy, just when the write track starts I get a “Unit not found†error 2000 and the program crashes ruining the disk.
Plextor had me run the self-test. The result was 3 amber blinks repeating. I repeated the test on two different types of media with the same results.
Plextor has me sending in the drive for replacement. But when I look up blink codes on line it says 3 amber blinks are not used. Anyone know what the 3 amber blinks mean.
One other question if I may, I have a Dell laptop with a USB2.0 PCI card with two ports. One port I have an external hard drive that I use for video and image files. The other I connect the external 716UF. Does that present a problem… would you consider the card a hub? I know Plextor says not to hook up to a hub. Wonder if that was the slow read problem. Although I am not using the external hard drive when running the read transfer tests.
