Greetings.

Heres the story. I bought a PX-716A burner about a month ago ,no problems whatsoever. In any case, all of a sudden I cant get the burner to burner at a speed faster than 8.0-8.5.
I was reading these forums and tried some of the remedies suggested unfortunately no luck thus far. Here is what I have done.
I did have a second CD burner connected as a slave on the same IDE cable but have since disconnected to se if this would remedy the problem. It did not.
I also removed the Nvidia Audio drivers but windows wants to replace them with the same drivers once I reboot and it finds the hardware.
I do have PlexTools and here is what it found:

Mr. Vertigo, hello! Here are a couple of things to check and certainly some of these fine, much more experienced folk will chime in. First make sure that your’e burner is in ultra dma mode 4 in your bios. Secondly, after your booted up, right click on the “My Computer” icon and go to properties, the hardware tab, and then device manager. Click the plus sign by the “IDE ATA\ATAPI Controllers”. Then right click on the primary or secondary controller, depending on which IDE channel your on, and it looks like from your post that you should be on the primary controller, go to the advanced settings tab and make sure that you are showing ultra dma available and just below that it should be showing ultra dma mode 4. If not then that will ceartainly affect your speed.

Good luck and hope this helps!

Ditto! Good advice! The pio 109 hacked to a a09xl likes to be the master on most MOBOs just like the Plex 716/ both UMDA4. Slave and non 80pin cables are a No No.

Please download DVD Identifier and insert a blank disk that you said it will only burn @8x. Hit the Identify button and let us know the Manufacturer ID and Media Type ID.

ruwalf and etp: mr.vertigo said that he can burn at 8x so DMA shouldn’t be a problem. However it is always good to re-check.
