PX-716A and Ritek G04 discs

Hey guys-I just found this forum and it is great! I have a few quick questions.

I just picked up the Plextor PX-716A. I have about 50 Ritek G04 discs that burnt fine in my Pioneer A06, but when I try to burn them w/ my 716A the burn fails at the very end every single time. I’m using Nero 6.6.0.3. I also have a spindle of Verbatim 16x DVD-Rs, which work every time.

I also used to use Stomp Recordnow MAX w/ my pioneer, but this software won’t burn anything w/ my new burner (it crashes right away).

My last question is should I be using Nero, or is there other software I should be using. I mainly use my burner to burn DVDs to play on standalone DVD players, so compatibility is the most important part. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

Ritek is not considered as recommended media. There are only four recommended media according to Plextor: Taiyo Yuden (TY), MCC (Mitsubishi/Verbatim), Ricoh, and Maxell. http://www.plextor.com/english/support/media_716.htm. These media are sold under various brand names. See my sig (scans) to find out.

However, you might want to check your 716a firmware, update with the lastest firmware 1.04, maybe with the new FW the Ritek will work.

For dvd backups, I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. Checkout this forum or others to find out more.

Thanks for the quick reply. I updated the firmware right when I installed the drive-no luck w/ that.

How is the Roxio suite that comes w/ the burner? I used DVD-Shrink and I have DVD-Decrypter. Doesn’t DVD Shrink just use Nero to burn, and does DVD-Decrypter have burning options? I’ll have to take a look in there.

Also, I burnt a 16x DVD-R and it took about 20 minutes-is it normally supposed to take that long for a 16x DVD-R? Thanks again, I really appreciate the input.

16x burn should take only around 6 mins.
Let us know what is your system spec so we can better analyze your problem.

Meanwhile, download Nero CDSpeed v3.61 (http://www.cdspeed2000.com), put a blank G04 and press F9 (create data disk). Then press the little disk icon on the top right to save it as PNG. Please post the image here.

While you’re on Nero CDSpeed, do the Burst test (or press F6) and report us with the speed (should be around 22-23mb/s for UDMA2).

Also check your DMA settings (should be UDMA2 or UDMA4) http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

I wouldn’t waste those Verbatim 16x before you got it fixed. Did you buy it from bestbuy? It’s the -R not +R right?
