PX-712A problems with audio cd

Hi all!

I have latest FW 1.05 and I’ve changed from PIO to ultra dma mode 2
about every 4-5 CD/DVD’s I burn I get burn process failed in Nero 6.0.3
and also noticed what bothers me at most is after I burn audio cd
and when I listen in my car for about 20 min first it starts to have in background sound of old vinyl records that (snap) and then after time it gets worse and sometimes it will pause and it will be stuck at one point,
I’ve tried other cd’s that I burned with my old 12x plextor
and they work great.

any help would be appreciated

Two hints to start:

  1. Upgrade your Nero to latest version.
  2. Run a C1/C2 test and a Beta/Jitter test on the audio CDs.

Let us know the results. Good luck!

ET

I recommend NOT using PlexTools for audio purposes. I had the same problem in my setup, RMA’ing did not solve the issue. With Nero and Feurio no problems so far.

As I wrote also in another thread, I personally disagree with surg’s opinion about PlexTools. IHMO it an excellent piece of software and I am using it mainly for its outstanding audio ripping and audio-protected CD ( :Z) backup features (both ripping and burning).

BTW, looks like micko_escalade has problems with Nero, not Plextools…

Regards,

ET

Thanx for the replies guys,

as eltranquil suggested here are the results
I think something wrong with both tests

I just tried to burn files on DVD and after few seconds
burn failed in Nero 6.3.1.25,
btw I tried burning audio cd in plextools and after did C1/C2 test
and got pretty much same results
I’ve attached Nreo log after failed burn

Edit: Removed your attachment since it contained your Nero serial number. I added the edited LOG file to your post instead.

micko_escalade, that is one awful scan. It’s no wonder your player cannot read these discs as they have way too many errors on them. C2 errors shouldn’t be on a disc, let alone CU errors. I may be asking the obvious but have you tried other media, preferably some high quality media like Taiyo Yuden. If your Plextor also creates coasters with these discs then you either have a problem with your drive or some system conflict. You could then try your drive in another computer to see if that makes a difference…

I must concur with eltranquil: for problem CD ripping and perfect audio CD copy PlexTools Pro is greatly preferable to both EAC and Feurio

thanx for te replies,

I tried burning audio cd with PlexTools same problem and same resaults in C1/C2 test, I’m using both cd & dvd media from GQ (great quality), I tried
burning audio cd with memorex media and burn process failed,
I just remembered that I have some TDK 650MB media I’ll give it a try and see what happens,

btw, anyone returned drive to plextor, how long did it take to get a new one?

Plextor is known for their good RMA procedures. Let us know how things go with the TDK media. As I said before, I advise you to try some other high quality media and let us know if this solves your problem. You say that GQ media is great quality but how do you know?

GQ must be an acronym that stands for “Great Quality” (yeah right), there is a thread about that brand in Media sub-forum (it is about DVDRs, though).

One reason for micko’s burn problems may be the crappy media he tried so far. He should definitely give Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLife Plus a shot - Plextors are very comfortable with those.

But first micko, you should have a look at your system setup and post it here: mobo/BIOS rev/chipset/IDE or ATA controllers if any etc. Something is very fishy here if you get over a million of CUs. Either that, or the drive is about to give up a ghost.

I’m sorry for a late responde,
I think I found my problem
like I said I tried TDK and did a C1/C2 test
and bellow is a screenshot, which is way better then with
GQ (which is a brand name that stands for great quality)
so far in my car I haven’t had problems but I still have to test it more
to make sure,
now for “burn process failed” even with other brand name memorex,
I’m not sure if I have to do RMA. cause I already have 2 media
that I have to avoid when buying ,

  • if I get a new one is it gonna be the same?
I’m assuming G@M3FR3@K did RMA in europe, how about USA
  • are the still good with that?

That scan looks a lot better but it still has C2 errors which is not something you want to see. I suggest you try some other high qaulity media since it does look like a media related problem. When you read around this forum you’ll find that Plextor has a good reputation when it comes to their RMA service. But, before you RMA the drive, try the other media. Plextor will probably ask you to perform a self-test first with your drive before they accept to RMA the drive. The self-test should be performed with media that’s on the Plextor’s list of Recommended Media. For more info on how to perform the self test check out the Plextor FAQ.

I use Steinberg’s Wavelab 5 for audio discs which works a heck of a lot better than Nero 6.3. Try it (and burn at 4x speed - better for your car CD player!).

Plextor US is quite good in RMA, except you need to pay for one way shipping :Z from you to Plextor. Plextor will ship free to you. But if you can RMA or return to your store (if within 30 days or whatever their return policy is–newegg is more than 30 days), that’s better. The reason is, RMA-ing to Plextor you will get a refurb one. RMA to store you’ll get a brand new one.

since burning with TDK has still some errors
is it good to return it?
and TDK is recommended and compatible with PX-712A
like I said burned audio cd with plextools and got same error’s so
I don’t think switching to other software would solve the problem,
I bought me plextor from newegg on june-17-2004 so its almost 4 months,
I just read under
“RMA Repair:
RMA Repair means you would like to send the item back for replacement (Products which are older than 90-days may be replaced with repaired merchandise)”
so I guess either way I send back I’ll get refurbished  , I wish there was a way to exchange it for PX-716A  (of course I wouldn’t mind paying little bit more)

btw, I really appreciate you help!

It’s pretty impossible to say if your drive is having a problem or not because you only tested two media brands of which one is pretty much crap (GQ). I think it would be best to buy some new media from brands like Verbatim, Fuji, Philips, etc. If your drive can burn these discs reliably I think your problem is media related. Let us know how things go!
