I agree with G@M3FR3@K, Nero could be a problem, but my friend uses the latest Nero with the 708A and the same problem, I use 126.96.36.199 Enterprise Edition (I like it).
Any vendor could rate there media at 52X (or whatever speed) I agree, mine are Sony (datasafe branded) 52X rated I wouldent use for audio anyway, I wouldent trust it. But when I am supposed to have a product that has a H/W feature to stop such things I expect to be able to use it, especially when they ship the drive with Nero!
tech support seems to think that PowerRec will NEVER be reported in Nero and I have already proved them wrong, It does report PowerRec.
If you have a drive without PoweRec, it will burn at up to 52x (the disc will be crap with lots of errors, but it will go up to 52x).
I have a 40X drive that burns everthing at 40X, crap burn with plenty errors. The same media in my CD-RW drive never burns above 32X. So it is like the 708A indeed does not have PowerRec? (at least not for other software)
I still not convinced guys, I like Plextor, dont get me wrong, but shit happens and Plextor is no exception. But when I get ignored by Plextor tech support purely because they dont have an answer I must go elswhere to see what I can dig up on there drives.
thnx for the replies btw,
anyone else got a suggestion? would be good to hear if anyone else has noticed this.
