PX-708A: discs are bad in a different drive

I got my PX-708A with the 1.02 firmware and since then have the problem that discs I burn with it, are not readable without errors in different drives (which is also shown by PlexTools CD Test and by CDR Inspector).

I have updated to 1.03 but the problem stays. I have removed all recording software from my PC and installed ASPI 4.60 on Plextor’s advice, but this all did not help. The problem occurs at least with, but will not be limited to, SVCD and Audio CDs.

PowerDVD refuses to play the disc unless it is played in the Plextor DVD burner. My PX-40TS in the same PC does not play it. A different computer does not play it either (but surprisingly WinDVD seems to care less about the errors on the disc).

Anyone seen this behaviour or has tips?

Hi and welcome!

May I ask what discs you have used and what writing speeds you have tried?

Also which program do you write the discs with?

Thanks

I have used both a 24x RW disc and Taiyo Yuden 48x discs (which the Plextor does not want to burn at speeds higher than 32x, btw). SVCD was burned at 32 speed. Audio at 8 speed.

Burning software: Nero 5.5.10.54.

Drive has now been sent to Plextor for exchange. Let’s see if that helps

New drive, new IDE cable, other IDE channel - problem solved.

Good to hear that, thanks for the update Octopuz!
