Px-708a can't burn now

After upgrading to 1.08 (which I did for better media support). When I try to burn with nero I get:

I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing both the drive and nero.

any help greatly appreciated
thanks
casba

CD or DVD burn? Does it read CD and DVD? Did you try to retro to 1.07 or earlier and try again? What media are you using? Try other media. No seek complete can be due to media or drive. If other brands of media give same error, RMA.

Same old 708 A piece of junk made by Plextor.First problem after I install a new firmware my drive stopped working.Cdr not recognizing a blank cd dvd ok.Plextor test ok the led blinks ok my drive did not work.Send my junk to Plextor Canada by 1 day mail recieved from them by surface in one week since than I can’t burn a damn think.Different drive with a new chip and using Win XP SP1 or 2 Nero or Roxio DMA set or not does not work.I’ve riched my limit and this is the last Plextor I got.First problem started with TDK Cdr 80 min and this was a problem the support said media not the drive.Checking my cd’s I found a TDK CDR burnt by me when I just got the drive!!!It’s a big why for Plextor but finally who care? Have a good one.

to casba: i would suggest you use the NERO CLEAN TOOL after you uninstall NERO BURN or if you know how to edit the WINDOWS REGISTRY under REGEDIT just delete anything you see that says AHEAD NERO. here is the download for the NERO CLEAN TOOL & REGISTRY CHECKER.

follow the instructions from the NERO website.

to tequila sunrise:
i have never had any problems with my 708A other than having to change the ide cable but only to find out it was my secondary ide controller on the mobo that was dying. other than saying your 708A is junk, it would have been better to post your computer specs. so that others on this forum could help you with trying to find a solution but it seems you’ve already come to the conclusion that Plextor is junk.

to dvd addict: is not a conclusion is a fact.On my second computer I have a Lite-On with no problems since I got it and I did not install any firmware on it.Installing Plextor 708A on my second computer I get the same error before starts burning. Now you be the juge what kind of drive is this?Fixed? Updated? I don’t think so!

Did you send it to “Plextor” or to MEMOFIX in Concord (Toronto)?

I sent a 712a back (RMA) to MEMOFIX by “signature service” mail ($8) on a Friday. It arrived there Tuesday and MEMOFIX sent a replacement via Purolator, which arrived the next morning. Fri -> Wed … not bad, and the replacement unit is much better.

Is it at all possible to try the replacement 708 in another computer, perhaps a willing friend’s? To have similar problems with a new unit suggests something about your PC, but it seems you’ve already made your mind up about Plextor.

Good luck anyways

Yes to Memofix and I pay $34 for mail and package and the replacement does not look new to me.Thanks for good luck but I give up.This started since I’ve install firmware 1.06.

You might want to try a BenQ 1620. Available from Anitec (in Calgary, I think) for C$83 and comes with software. Shipping costs should be cheap, and if you don’t live in Alberta, no provincial sales tax!

http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=2437

For what it’s worth, I no longer consider Plex the “King of Quality” either, and would only get another one if this Forum (forget the “Professional Reviews”, feh) raved about it non-stop the way the BenQ forum rave about the 1620.

Thanx Buddy is a better deal that to pay for mail and to fix nothing.Beside that I live in Calgary.I’lll give a try.

As I said I haven’t had any problems with the 708A drive from day one. Since you obviously don’t want to post your computer specs, it is my conclusion that who knows what was so wrong with your 708A drive. But hey as they say 2 each’s own. I’d take my 708A drive over the 712 or 716!
BTW I only used firmware 1.04 on my 708A until bitsetting came along I upgraded to firmware 1.08. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok you’re a lucky guy and I’m not.Using firmware 1.04 this was a very good drive after that good when is working.Specs, why you need them? If two people are going to tell you you’re drunk is time to think about.First computer I have is a HP fast enough AMD chip Win XP ATI video card 45 GB hard drive 512 RAM and etc etc.Install Win XP SP1 Corp updated to SP2 problems with this 708A from installing the next firmware after 1.04.Send back to Plextor Canada replaced with not very new one but newer chip I have Calibration problems and ileagal request, end up to cancel the job.Used Nero or Roxio no difference.Install same 708A on my second and favorite computer faster and newer customized by me Intel 3.0 on Asus motherboard 1GB Ram 80 GB hard drive Nero 6.6 Power Pack working nice on Lite-On DVD writer I got from my lucky king of the burning industry Plextor 708A the same error.Works ok sometime on cdr but never on DVD+R since I got it.Happy now? If you like it so much tell me your birthday and I send it to you.Have a good one.

why are you being a wise ass? geez it takes more than just computer specs to figure out what your problem was with the drive. but hey you have it all figured out so why bother coming in here to post your dislike of the 708A drive. don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out! As for your Liteon drive that’s a laugh because it is a known fact that Liteon drives PREFER DVD+R MEDIA!

TS: you’re way out of topic here!!! I don’t know dvdaddict in person but i’ve always seen him in 708 threads helping people. He’s one of very few 708 expert in my opinion.

Sad to say my 708a only works with burning DVDs, it will not work with reading or writing cdr’s or cdrw’s. It happened right after the year warranty was up. I read all the reviews and it looked like a winner, ran down to Bestbuy and paid 240$ for this POS. (Guess the first clue should have been it had the “made in china” on it. My old plextor 1610 and even my Yamaha have made in “Japan”. After reading many reviews later I found that this drive was bugged from the start with this problem! I’m so pissed off at plextor for making this bugged drive I will never get one from them again. They should have the balls to say this was a turkey and to replace them no matter if the one year guarantee is up or not. Heck you can buy 4 liteons for what this turkey cost me. I keep this drive in my computer still because it burns DVDs but also to let me know not to buy plextor again.

Sorry to hear your 708a can’t burn cds. i’m assuming you couldn’t burn cds after the warranty was up. I’d be pissed off too if that happened to me.

In my opinion LITEON drives are at the bottom of the crop. I have a Liteon 811s that I only use to do KPROBE scans. Liteon drives prefer DVD+R media than DVD-R. I could burn a MAXELL or TAIYO YUDEN DVD-R with the 811s and get crappy burns filled with errors or coasters. The HS0P firmware was the only stable one I could use. I only purchased the Liteon because it was a clearance item that was too good to pass up at the time. Take a look at the Liteon forum because they have just as many pros and cons as any other brand of dvd burner.
