PX-708A cannot playback SVCD created by itself!

Hi all,

Recently I found a rather weird problem with PX-708A and WinDVD Creator.

I used WinDVD Creator v.2.0B14.276 to create a SVCD disc with PX-708A. Then I used WinDVD v.4.0B11.640 to try and playback but it won’t!!

It’s kind of frustrating that this drive cannot playback a SVCD created by itself… Did someone encounter the same problem?

Did you try playing it in other burner, DVD-ROM or your home dvdplayer? If other cannot playback too, it might be a wrong SVCD creation format.

My 712a can playback VCD fine but never try SVCD since I don’t have one.

The best VCD/SVCD program to use is VCD EASY but it’s a shareware software. I would suggest you download a program called VCD GEAR. VCD GEAR will correct any errors that you could have with your MPEG 1 file. Then try reburning it with NERO burn. You can find VCD GEAR in the tools section of www.videohelp.com You may want to check out the SVCD section at that website as well and join their forum.

One last thing is to check that you have the correct codec to playback a SVCD on your computer. Not all computers have it. Here’s the download link for gspot:

Gspot is freeware. It will tell you what codecs you have or are needed.

The SVCD can be played back by BenQ DW1600 using the same software, but not on the Plextor 708A nor another Lite-On drive I tried…

There is probably an imcompatibility between the playback software and PX-708A…

What’s the brand name of the cd disc that you used? Try using the recommended brands of cdr that Plextor supports.

I’m pretty sure it’s not a medium issue since the created disc can be played by using other softwares using the same Plextor drive. The problem most likely has to do with the compatibility of PX-708A with the playback software.

Anyhow I used several different brands of media, including MKM, Sony, and TDK.
