Just had the nightmare situation. Opened a Music CD and found that my prised disc had a crack in it almost from the center to the edge (stopped about 5mm from the edge)
Thought, "I own one of the best drives for reading damaged discs" so I fed it into the BenQ... CLUNK CLICK CLUNK CLUNK... Drive fails to read the disc after multiple attempts.
Next came the Aopen. This read the disc but failed to extract the data without errors (clicking), it did take a few attempts to reading the disc but it did make an attempt.
Lastly I re-installed my (faulty) PX-708 and fed it the disc. After some clicking and clunking the disc reported ready. Put it through EAC and it has extracted without ANY errors or using the error correction on EAC.
In all cases I used Nero tools to limit the drive to 4x & also told EAC to limit to 4x. It did take over an hour to read the disc but I now have a clean copy to burn to a new disc.
Now this is what Plextor quality means.
I just hope the PX-716 that should arrive tomorrow does the same.
