Pursuit of Happyness

Hi all. I have recently copied The pursuit of Happyness which has the latest sony across puplet lock protection installed. I copied the disc using dvdfab HD decrypter vesion 3.1.0.8 and then shrunk the file with dvd shrink and copied it on to a disc using nero burning rom.

When I open the disc with dvd shrink to anaylse in case the burn was faulty, it says “error occured” cannot read from drive e" When I did some duplicate copies on dvdrw’s I get the same problem even if I change the drive in use.

The discs will not open on nero burning rom, or nero recode which do not even recognise them. When I put on anydvd it recognises the discs as normal dvdr’s with no protection or bogus files, as well as dvdfabHD Decrypter that reads the discs with no problem.

Why do nero and dvd shrink fail to open or recognise the discs and why is there a delay when I load them on my dvd player?

Am I using the best combination of programs when copying the latest copy protection technologies? Please help! Sorry for the long speech.

THE ROCK

I copied it using Any DVD and Clone DVD2 without a problem.

Good one Alan

OT…sorry.
Hey Tim, I can get you a deal on some dementia medication…my wife buys in bulk for me…

Hi The Rock,

You’re a couple versions behind, but that shouldn’t make any difference here. I recall doing a bkup of this one with platinum back when it came out, no problems at all. Hard to speak to specific issues with shrink or nero, perhaps a disc structure problem.
IMO, platinum is far superior to any other software or combinations of software for creating bkups (and much more). It will do it all. I’d recommend you download it and give the free 30 day trial a whirl. I’m betting you’ll be impressed and won’t want to give it up.

So these discs play ok both from your standalone player and off your pc with a software player, such as VLC, powerdvd, etc.,?..aside from a slight delay in starting?
Anything peculiar in the nero burn log?
Have you tried burning with Img?

Hi The Rock,

Sorry you are having probems with Pursuit of Happyness. I backed up main movie only using Fab Platinum. No problems :iagree: The movie that is giving me fits is Armageddon

Ah but you do not know what I know LOL  BUT Alan does and as far as the Meds I’ll take some anyway :stuck_out_tongue:
P.S…Getting slow in old age Tom :flower:

Hey rog, really? What kind of fits?
I’ll try to track down my original…amazing how many discs “disappear” with 2 college “kids”…

That’s ok…even if you told me, chances are that I won’t remember…

Hi Maine,

Tried Armageddon 3-4 times. Major pixelation problems. No errors during rip or burn. Tried 2 different dvd burners. Used verb media. Fab options set same as always. Finally gave up. Created 4 coasters. I never had a problem like this before.

Weird huh?
Burning to an SL right?
Do you have any older +RWs hanging around? like 2.4X?
Throw an RW in and burn at 4X or slower and see what happens.
No coasters this way…
How do the files play when viewed from the hdd?

HI all. I haven’t done a nero burning log, but will tonight by trying the main movie only to see if anything changes.

Lastly, can you explain what IMO, PLATINUM IS and what burning with IMG means. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Rock. IMO is forum shorthand and means In My Opinion. Platinum is DVDFab Platninum and burning with IMG means using the ImgBurn software to write to DVD after processing with other software (not really necessary with DVDFab Gold or Platinum unless you are having burning problems and want to test).

I know it probably shouldn’t matter but, update to latest version, do full movie, and burn at no more than 6x,and as maineman stated try Verb DVD+R 2.4x…worked for me…
IMO of course…

I copy to HDD all the time. I have used FAB PLATINUM to Backup my copy of The Pursuit of Happyness as well. Had no problems with that. But I copy to HDD all the time because usually I am afraid of burning Frisbees and I hate doing that. I sometimes get RUNTIME ERRORS if I go directly to Disc.

I have all of the programs mentioned by The ROCK I will see if my Back-up shows me the errors you mention. And I use ROXIO 9 to Burn. I like that Roxio shows me all of the Chapters and pictures and you can run and check each chapter to see if there is a problem with any of them. I like Pictures

Hi all. I forgot to post the log, but it may not be necessary because I did the following:

Installed latest version of dvdfab HD decrypter 2.11.2 which replaced dvdfab HD decrypter 3.1.0.8. Opened the file as an iso image file and put it through the lastest version. Went to open image and it said “Dvd shrink encountered and error and cannot continue” Failed to read drive e"

I then compressed the original dvd video file and compressed the movie only with shrink, burnt it to disc and then opened it with no problems.

Why are nero and shrink opening the movie only file, but not the full movie when it’s burnt to disc? I had a problem with casino Royale a few months ago that would open on main movie and full disc but wouldn’t play on any dvd players unless I did movie only.

What is going on? Should I put the original film through the latest version of fab decrypter and do the same tests and see how it goes? Or is there a way of taking off existing protections on a file that is stored on the hard drive?

Thanks in advance for your time and support.

Hi All. I recently installed the latest version of dvd fab platinum 3.1.1.6. I put pursuit of happyness through it and burned it straight to a dvd5 disc. When I tried opening with shrink and nero it would delay on nero but wouldn’t open on shrink. I would get the message “dvd shrink encountered an error cannot read from drive e” I then went to customise on fab platinum and opened up the original dual layer Pursuit of Happyness file.

I would then get the message dvd fab has encountered an error and needs to close. When I do the same on other files I never get this message. This is the second original copy of Pursuit of happyness that I’ve used and had the same problems with.

There seems to be a problem with some of the files. I have been advised to use image burn before putting files to disc, but don’t know what it does and where to download it from. Is this nessesary if I have the latest software on the market? How can I get around this problem? Someone please help!

So you are trying to read the disc you burned?
What name brand media are you using?

If you burnt it with DVDFAB Platinum why are you trying to use DVD Shrink and Nero on it ? Did you try playing the movie after you burnt it ? Doesn’t make sense to try and use 2 or 3 programs when Platinum will do it all, Do you mean that you burnt it on the fly?

I am using ritec g5/g6 discs and also dvdrw sony discs and have never experienced this problem before. It doesn’t matter if I use nero, shrink or fab platinum to burn image to disc, I still get same problem. When I put finish product in dvd player there is a 10 second delay before the disc will even open.

I will try and save the dvd fab log when I try and open the original pursuit of happyness file, and post it. Apart from that I can’t think of anything else. Any ideas
