What boot method are you using to boot your backups? maybe the fault is there, I ask as you said “Once past the actual boot process, the discs read well” so it seems more like its a problem booting rather than the actual reading of the disc.
I personally have used Verbatim x8 and x16, Taiyo Yuden x8 and x16 and Maxell Xtreme Protek x16 (mxl rg04) all burnt at x8 in my pioneer 116d and all work fine in my ps2, I have also burnt many of the x8 discs I list plus the x16 verbs in my old pioneer 111D and they worked fine too.
Well I did a few more tests…I have some old backups that were burned on Memorex CD-R’s and they still boot perfect. You can “hear” the PS2 have no troubles getting it past the initial read…it reads and boots them very quickly.
As for my eqiupment… Magic 3? I can’t remember…it was years ago when I did it.
Again, my “original DVD game” boots very well. My Verbatim’s have been burned on two separate computers as well…just to make sure it wasn’t the specific burner. I used IMGBurn on Windows and Toast on OSX. Thanks again in advance if anyone has any more advice.
